Sydney Spitler Obituary

Sydney Leile Spitler
Feb. 8, 1947- Sept 28, 2014
Sydney Leile Spitler, was born in Hayward, California, February 8, 1947 to George Worth and Roberta Spitler. She passed away September 28, 2014.  She graduated from Merced High in 1965, Merced College in 1970, and from Chico State in 1972 with a degree in mass communications and a minor in speech.  Employment included selling real estate and working at Guarantee Savings and Loan. She owned her own business—SidKid—selling baby cribs and making baby quilts and crib sets she designed herself. She then went back to school and became a Montessori teacher where she worked for 19 years. She loved teaching and watching children grow and learn how to read. Sydney was dedicated, kind, generous, and had a good connection with her students. Parents of children she taught praised her dedication and loved her good work. Beyond her teaching, her outreach into community included performing on stage in musicals as well as in many choirs, and she was president of the Masterworks Chorale in 1980. Sydney worked tirelessly in the Christian Science church as soloist, chairman of the music committee, treasurer, and First Reader. She was a member of AAUW and PEO.  Sydney is survived by her mother, Roberta; her brother, John Spitler, and his wife, Pam; and their children, Colin, Anne and Beth. A memorial service will be held in Merced in December and will be announced. In lieu of flowers please help support the Sydney Spitler memorial book fund by donating to Friends of the Merced County Library.  P.O. Roberta and family, I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Sydney worked with me at Merced Montessori.
I googled Sydney's name and was shocked to learn she passed away. I have fond memories of Syd.She was a great teacher with a pleasant personality. She made me feel welcome when I started work and invited me to her house. She loved to help people and the children loved to learn from her. I am sorry to hear of her passing. Dear Family of Sydney,
I am so saddened to learn of Sydney's passing. Although I hadn't seen her in several years, I always enjoyed chatting with her, when I worked in banking 25 years ago. She could always brighten up any room with her infectious smile & bubbly personality. I mourn your loss, but if we keep her memory alive in our hearts, she will always be with us. My thoughts & prayers are with you all.
Sincerely,
Steve Teranishi
