Hisa Irene Nakano of Sunnyvale, California, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 9, 2021 in Union City, California, at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman Nakano and her brother, George Ishikawa. She is survived by her sister, Kimi Kitasoe, her children, Patti Young (Jay), Vickie Yamaoka (Larry), Karen Whitworth (Jeff) and Carl Nakano (Elise). She will be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren: Landon Yamaoka (Kyla), Kristin Young, Kelsey Lundsten (Matt), Bradley Whitworth (Melanie), Joey Whitworth (Sadie), Quinn Nakano and Carly Nakano. She was a very proud great grandmother to Kaelyn, Terryn, Hank and Zeke.
She was born on June 3, 1928 in Loomis, California. She left Tule Lake Internment Camp to live with a family in Oakland, California where she attended high school. At the age of 21, she married Norman Nakano in San Francisco. In 1963 they settled in Sunnyvale, California, where she worked for Hewlett Packard until retirement.
Hisa will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events and activities. After retirement she faithfully followed her favorite teams, the SF Giants and the Golden State Warriors. In addition, she loved reading, crafting, crocheting, baking, lawn bowling, traveling and trips to the casinos.
The family will celebrate her life with a private service. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Palo Alto Buddhist Temple, 2751 Louis Road, Palo Alto, California, 94303.
