Resident of San Jose
Dr. John Cantwell passed away on July 23 in San Jose after a brief illness.
Dr. Cantwell practiced medicine in San Jose for 64 years. He was on staff at O'Connor Hospital for 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Cantwell; his sons, John Cantwell Jr and Raymond Cantwell.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Cantwell; his daughters, Rita Smith (Mike) and Kathy Reddis; his grandchildren, Tony, Bryan, Nicole, John Paul, and Reno; and his great-grandchildren, Emily, Madisyn, and Cadence.
Graveside Services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, July 29 at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Dr, Los Altos.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Dr. Cantwell brought me into this world 65 1/2 yrs ago at O'Conner Hospital in San Jose. I'll always remember him through my late mother who often spoke highly of him. Rest in peace, sir, and thank you.

Dr. Cantwell was a kind, compassionate physician. He was in charge of my family's health care needs for over forty years delivering three of my children. It is with sadness that I offer my condolesences, but truly believe he is at peace.

My name is Read Zaro, Doctor Cantwell was the family physician for my family as long as I can remember. From what my folks told me I was one of his first deliveries as a Dr based out of O'Connor in 1953. I am now 61.
He took wonderful care of my mother, father and I as long as I can remember. He was a truly a wonderful guy. Always there to help me find my way through my mon and dad's illnesses later in their lives. For that I am forever indebted. He will truly be missed.
