John Lloyd Obituary

John Rogers Lloyd
Nov 7, 1927 – Jul 25, 2015
Resident of Oakdale, CA
John Rogers Lloyd 87, Oakdale, CA, passed away peacefully on July 25th. John was a resident of Los Gatos for 65 years. He will always be remembered for his generous and kind spirit, his love of animals, nature and his lifelong love of learning. John leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Marguerite Lloyd; sons Rhys (Lucy) Lloyd, Evan (Lisa) Lloyd; grandchildren Ashley Cogburn, Andrew Lloyd, Jason Lloyd; great-grandchildren Kaylee, Tara and Gavin Cogburn. John's family founded and operated the Montezuma Mountain Ranch School, now Presentation Center, in the Santa Cruz Mountains from 1910-1955 where John lived and graduated High School at age 16. John served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Military Police Officer in Japan. He graduated from San Jose State University where he met wife, Miss Marguerite Crawford (LGHS Class of 1948). John worked at Owens Corning Fiberglass until asked to return home to teach at Montezuma. He was a science and math teacher at Montezuma until the school closed, then adding woodshop to his portfolio, he moved to Castro Junior High School in San Jose for over 30 years. After he retired, John's passion was to continue working with young people to promote leadership skills fostered at Montezuma. He and a group of the school's alumni created The Montezuma Foundation in 1988. Junior State of America (JSA) was a student government organization that originated at Montezuma in the early 1930's. The Foundation's primary goal each year is to sponsor select JSA High School students and teachers from across the country to convene at the birthplace of JSA, round-table with the alumni, and continue the teaching of leadership that started almost over 100 years ago. A private interment will be held at Los Gatos Memorial Park, followed by an open Celebration of Life at Presentation Center, 19480 Bear Creek Rd, Los Gatos, CA 95033 in Los Gatos on September 13th at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to "The Montezuma Foundation" c/o The Lloyd Family, P.O. Box 364, Redwood Estates, CA. 95044.

Yes, I was very fond of him as well - even when I was being a smart aleck and he playfully, but forcefully pinned me to the floor in the locker room in front of everyone! He meant a lot to me. I still have and use the book stand he showed me how to make. I'm sorry for the family's lost.
