Joseph Ingram Obituary

Joseph H. Ingram Joe passed away at home on September 18 due to complications following a car accident. Joe was born December 18, 1928 and lived his entire life in San Jose, spending much of his youth picking prunes and walnuts in the valley's orchards. He graduated from Lincoln High School and was a highly skilled a carpenter, establishing a home construction company that he operated for 45 years. He had enormous energy and enthusiasm for a variety of hobbies including woodworking, raising cactus, skin diving, singing and aiding the homeless (human and otherwise). He sang with the Garden City Chorus and was a lifelong member of the Zalators. Joe was an accomplished diver and was a member of the San Jose Flipper Dipper dive club for over 40 years, taking his last abalone dive, (and getting his limit), at the age of 79. Joe's zest for life, helpful, caring nature, integrity, sense of adventure and rowdy sense of humor endeared him to so many. Throughout his life, he attracted and maintained a multitude of friends. Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alta. He is survived by his children, Joseph, Jr., Yvonne, Richard and Lisa, son-in-laws, Bert Rankin and Dennis Wharton, brothers, Bill, Forrest and Ed, grandchildren, B.J., Alex, Isaac, Sierra and Henry, and his faithful dog Gunner. Joe's family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the numerous friends and neighbors who helped in so many ways, big and small, during his final weeks. We would especially like to acknowledge Nancy, Jean, Bill, Dale, Emilio, Angie and Marcella for the tireless care, devotion and support you gave to our father. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. October 11th at the Mountain Winery on Pierce Road in Saratoga. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joe's memory to the California State Parks Foundation, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Humane Society of Silicon Valley or the Second Harvest Food Bank.

We are saddened by the loss of our wonderful neighbor's father. We have lived next door to Yvonne and her family for over 10 years and experienced her loss of both parents while her two boys have, at the same time, become terrific young adults. Joe was always a delightful and energetic guy and it is painful that Yvonne and his loved ones will not have more time with him in this life. Our best to all, Dan and Yvonne

My Special Friend: As long as I can think, as long as I have memory, I will love you and cherish our friendship. You lived honsetly, pursued goals and gave birth to original ideas. You created constructive thought and gave yourself wholeheartedly to tomorrow. I so appreciate knowing you, being your friend, and being "The Lady Down The Street. "

Thank you Joe for your love and devotion to the animals of Willow Glen who don't have a home to call their own. You made sure they had shelter from the cold and rain. You will always be their angel!

We have lived next door to Joe since November of 1995 and considered him a dear friend and great neighbor. We will miss the advice he would give us about carpentry and tools, and will miss hearing him chase after Gunner. The neighborhood has lost a spirited and generous friend. We miss him.

I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He and my husband were dog park buddies for many years, and we enjoyed his kindness and humor on many occasions. His kindness and generosity made the world a better place.

Being born into the San Jose Flipper Dippers, I knew Joe my entire life. I remember him being a very happy person-always having a smile, and singing! Thinking of him now, I see a man with a big smile on his face- what a wonderful way to be remembered. Thank you Joe for your kind heart and beautiful memories. You will be missed.

I grew up in the neighborhood. If Joe sensed on of the neighborhood kids was in trouble, he was one of those guys that would protect and make sure the bully didn't come back to the street. He was a great teacher and listener. There will always be the man and the voice in my mind as a reminder just what a man should be!
