Stuart L. Sandelman

Stuart L. Sandelman June 14, 1925 - April 28, 2008 Beloved husband of Pearl, whom he met in high school. They were married over 61 years. Devoted father of Holly Cherry (John), Raymond Sandelman (Vicki), Julia Sandelman, and Naomi Parker (David). Loving brother of Marcy Rubinoff (Bill) and proud grandfather of 5 children who knew and loved him. Stuart was raised in Detroit, MI and enlisted in the Navy V12 program when he was 18. He earned his degree in Engineering from Marquette University and later went to school at night to earn his Law degree from Southwestern University. He had his own private law practice in San Jose for 30 years. Known to friends as "Mr. President," he led many organizations including AEP Fraternity, the West Valley Bar Association, the Brotherhood at Temple Emanu El, the Ner Tamid chapter of B'nai Brith, and Congregation Shir Hadash where he and Pearl were founding members. He led the San Jose Order of the Scottish Rite and was passionate about his work establishing their Aphasia Clinic. In recognition of his exemplary service, he received the honor of 33rd degree Mason which was presented in Washington, D. C. Also known as "Mr. Bylaws," Stuart used his legal skills in drafting bylaws for every organization he belonged to. He was also known to family as "Mr. Fix-it" because he loved tools and could repair anything, often using recycled materials. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping, gardening, playing bridge, square dancing, Gilbert and Sullivan shows, and boating. When Stuart retired, he traveled with Pearl to many countries throughout the world. He prized education and supported his children in earning college and graduate degrees. He was kind, creative and had a good sense of humor. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 1, 2008 at Congregation Shir Hadash in Los Gatos.
