William Donovan Obituary

PLYMOUTH William P. Donovan, age 81, died on July 2, 2008, at the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. He was the devoted husband of 55 years to Doris (Scott) Donovan of Plymouth. Mr. Donovan was born in Gross Pointe, Mich., on Oct. 8, 1926, son of the late Valintin and Clara (Harrietha) Donovan. He was educated in Canada and served in the Canadian Navy from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Donovan moved to Massachusetts and entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served from 1948 to 1952 as a staff sergeant. He later moved to Plymouth from Framingham, where he lived for the past 21 years. He had worked for Commonwealth Gas Company as a maintenance meter man, until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Donovan was a member of the American Legion Post No. 40, and was Past Grand Knight of Chapter No. 1190, a life member of the Plymouth D.A.V., and member of the Robert Buchanan 4th Degree K. of C. He was an active communicant of St. Peters Church in Plymouth, serving as an acolyte and Eucharistic minister. Mr. Donovan is survived by his wife Doris (Scott) Donovan of Plymouth; three sons, Timothy P. Donovan of Tampa, Fla., David W. Donovan of Marquette, Mich., Stephen P. Donovan of Clinton, N.Y.; three daughters, Cynthia A. Bedford of Milford, Roberta L. Lundgren of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Dale P. Kehr of Lindenhurst, Ill. He also leaves a brother; Theodore Donovan of Dearborn Heights, Mich., and sister, Margaret R. MacDougall of Canada. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Mary Patricia Donovan of Canada , John Donovan of Canada and Roy Donovan of Dearborn Heights, Mich. He was the cherished grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of four. The funeral will take place Monday morning, at 9:15, from the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Peters Church in Plymouth at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the Cartmell Funeral Home on Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Donations in his memory may be made to the Jordan Hospital, 275 Sandwich St., Plymouth, MA or the Plymouth Knights of Columbus.
