TIPP CITY - James Louis Sleeper, age 89 of Tipp City and formerly of Troy, passed away at 2:50 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, 2023, in the inpatient unit of Hospice of Miami County, Troy.
He was born December 9, 1933, in New Carlisle to the late Burt and Myrtle Sleeper.
James "Jim" married Brenda Margaret King in England on March 19, 1955. They had one daughter, Nancy L. Sleeper. Jim was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church of Troy for over 40 years. Soon after graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force where he served for approximately 30 years as an air traffic controller.
Then he was an air traffic controller at the Dayton International airport for a couple of years. After retiring, Jim and Brenda loved to travel. They went on several cruises to many ports of Europe. They especially loved to return to Brenda's birthplace, England.
Both Jim and Brenda were devoted animal lovers. They belonged to a number of animal organizations in the States and England. They both were long time members and very active in the Animal Welfare League of Clark County, of which Jim served as President for a number of years.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2023, at the Riverside Cemetery Cremorial in Troy with Rev. Eileen O'Reilly officiating. Military honors by the Veteran's Memorial Honor Guard of Troy.
Donations may be made to PAWS Animal Shelter, 1535 W. US Highway 36, Urbana, OH 43078. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.fishercheneyfuneralhome.com.
