FINDLAY -- John Louis Luckey, 66, of rural Findlay, passed away Wednesday morning, September 1, 2021 at Blanchard Valley Hospital ICU. He was born in Troy, OH on August 15, 1955 to the late Agnes (Barker) Koopman and raised by his step-father, Raymond Koopman. On October 31, 2001, John married Debra Jo Duerk, and she survives.
John has three daughters: Jessica (Gilbert) Castillo, Valley Center, CA, Jacqueline Luckey, Escondido, CA, and Jaime Luckey, Fredericksburg, TX. He also has three grandchildren: Delainy and Laurence Castillo, Valley Center, CA, and Bryce Luckey, Escondido, CA. John's siblings are Jeff (Jane) Koopman and Joanna (Robert) Stewart, both of Troy, OH.
John retired from the U.S. Navy, after serving his country from September 1974 to September 1994. He achieved the rank of Cryptologic Technical Branch Senior Chief Petty Officer. His duty assignments included Naval Security Group Activity in Edzell, Scotland (2 tours); Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadon Two (VQ-2) in Rota, Spain; USS Merrill (DD-976); Naval Field Station, Sinop, Turkey, and Naval Security Group Detachment, Denver, Colorado.
All services will be private. The family was assisted with arrangements by COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Memorials may be made in John's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project. Online condolences may be sent to the family at coldrencrates.com.
