PIQUA -- R. James "Jim" Snyder, 62, of Piqua passed away at 7:40 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2021 at his residence. He was born October 13, 1959 in Piqua to the late Robert and Irene (Marshall) Snyder.
Survivors include two sisters, Rebecca (Kevin) McKenna of Clayton, Ohio, and Roberta "Bobbi" Owen of Placerville, California; additionally, he left behind four nieces and nephews, Elizabeth McKenna of Clayton, Ohio, Megan Pecunia of Rohnert Park, California, John Michael McKenna of Baltimore, Maryland, and Marshall Owen of Bangkok, Thailand.
Jim was a graduate of Piqua Central High School Class of 1978. After graduating, Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was excellent with computers and worked as an IT specialist for many years. His biggest passion was anything and everything about motorcycles. Jim traveled to the Maxton Mile in North Carolina and from 2000-2003 he broke 10 land speed records with speeds ranging from 135 to 162 mph and raced under Sportster List, Sportster Org., Sportster List Race Team and Whiplash. He also went out to the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2003 for the 17th Annual World of Speed and had a land speed record of 167.735 mph with the Sportster List Race Team. He really enjoyed the camaraderie he had with his fellow motorcycle enthusiasts. Jim enjoyed being an uncle and liked to keep in touch with his nieces, nephews, and cousins and see everyone at family reunions.
A service to honor his life will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery. Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Dayton VA Medical Center, 4100 West Third Street, Dayton OH 45428.
