Gabriel Martinez Obituary
Gabriel Matthew Martinez, 29, of Lake Orion, formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020.
He was born on April 19, 1991 in Phoenix, Arizona to Sharon (Smith) Schmalz and Jose Martinez. Gabe was a graduate of Harbor Beach High School, class of 2009, and graduated from Michigan Tech University in 2014 with an engineering degree. Gabe worked at Chrysler as an engineer. He enjoyed bike riding, listening to music, disc golf, camping, hockey, and football. Gabe was an overachiever and was going to "make changes in the world." He was a friend of everybody, and always brought a smile to everyone's face.
Gabe is survived by his mother, Sharon (Michael) Schmalz of Harbor Beach; father, Jose Martinez of Phoenix, Arizona; his brother, Zachary Martinez and significant other Anastasia of Attica; aunts and uncles, Pam (Mike) Semp of Harbor Beach, Sue (Bob) Lynch of Port Hope, Jan (Greg Gerkin) Smith of Harbor Beach, Mark (Kelley-Anne) Smith of Harbor Beach, Matthew (Diane) Smith of Lowell, Beth Welker of Harbor Beach, Paul Schmalz of Valley View, Ohio, Daniel (Rory) Schmalz of Aiken, South Carolina; half brothers, Richard and Daniel Martinez; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold & Leah Smith, Richard and Joyce Schmalz; half brother Joe "Michael" Santora; his uncle, Al Welker, and aunt, Theresa Schmalz.
Funeral Services for Gabe will be Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Rock Falls Cemetery, with Rev. Paula Timm officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. Please bring a lawn chair for the service. Visitation for Gabe will be Friday, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Visitation on Saturday will be at the cemetery beginning at 9 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m.
