JAMES PARKINSON Obituary

PARKINSON, JAMES ASHLEY Parkinson, James Ashley, 90 of Clinton, husband of Gertrude Marie (Keyes) Parkinson died on January 3, 2016 at home. Born August 24, 1925 in Orange NJ the son of the late James Harold Parkinson and Helen Fitzpatrick Parkinson, he resided in Cromwell CT for many years. A graduate of The Hill School, Pottstown PA and Wesleyan University, Middletown CT, he served in the US Navy in the Southwest and Central Pacific in World War II and also served on active duty during the Korean War, retiring from the US Naval Reserve as LTJG in 1963. He retired from Aetna Life and Casualty, as Manager Claim Dept., after 33 years of service. In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by a brother, Charles R. Parkinson of Beulah MI. His daughter Joyce A Wrabel predeceased him. He leaves three daughters, Barbara J Parkinson of Old Saybrook, Betsy Parkinson Pabst of Killingworth and Mary Ellen Parkinson (Iannicelli) of Cromwell. He leaves twelve grandchildren, Michael, James, Heather (Ragion), and David Wrabel, Ashley, Kevin, and Betsy Fisher, Stacey, Amy, and Daniel Pabst, Julie (Burland) and James Iannicelli, seven great grandchildren, numerous in-laws and nieces and nephews. He loved the beach, sailing, fishing and lobstering and got his wish to stay at home at the shore as he moved from here to Heaven. He was an avid sports fan and was a member of the 91 club traveling from Clinton to Springfield MA for the Whaler seasons. His love of the NY Giants, Boston Red Sox and Hockey Night in Canada kept him busy the whole year. Funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Funeral Home in Rocky Hill CT 11 AM on January 9. Calling hours will be 10-11 AM. A burial with military honors will immediately follow the services.

I remember Parky from when I was a kid growing up in Clinton. His visits to the Keyes family, where I spent a great deal of my time, were always fun. He told jokes and had us kids laughing all the time. He will be missed by many, I'm sure.

Parky was always a favorite uncle from my toddler days in home movies, to childhood days going for boat rides and checking lobster pots, to swimming times with Keyes family at Chalker beach, later to rental times with my Celio family at Chalker Beach, and stopping by Shore Road bringing friends Ann or Pattie, always welcoming, joking and encouraging you to come again. Lots of wonderful memories as you suffer this loss. My sympathy to you all.
