Lawrence Cassyd Obituary

CASSYD, LAWRENCE "LARRY"
Lawrence "Larry" Cassyd, 72, of Portland, passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2017. He was born November 30, 1944 in Hackensack, N.J. to the late Jennie (Druss) and Caspar Cassyd and was the brother of the late Karen Cassyd-Lent. Upon graduating Woodrow Wilson high school, Middletown, CT, Larry served in the US Air Force. After returning home, he started his lengthy sales career. Larry was an avid golfer, playing at any golf club he had the opportunity. For over 35 years, Larry was an active member of the Portland Exchange Club. Never one for a frown, Larry had the ability to make you laugh, even when you did not want to. His sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Mary (Harber) Cassyd with whom they have 3 children: Scott of Felton, DE; Cas of MA; and Joan (Cassyd) Viet, her husband Brandon and son Harber of Solon, IA and his nephew, Addison Lent, of Monterey, CA. In addition, Larry leaves behind his long-time partner, Bernadette Davidson; her son Hal and his partner Marla Waldo, and their son Trent; and Bernadette's daughter Lisa Peltier, her husband Chris and their children Emma and Zachary, all of East Hampton, CT. Larry leaves many loving cousins and friends with whom he shared so many special memories. Our family extends our deepest gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Donadio and her staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital Yale-New Haven @ St. Francis in Hartford, and Masonicare Home Health of Wallingford.
Family and friends are welcome to attend the graveside ceremony and burial on Thursday, September 28 at 1:00 pm at the Connecticut State Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown where full military honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish War Veterans Memorial - JWV National Headquarters 1811 R Street, NW Washington, DC 20009. Dear Scott, Cass, Joan and family, Like everyone who knew him, we adored Larry - as a cousin, a friend, a guy who never said no to a family party! His capacity for love and humor, AND great turkey carving will be forever treasured by the Parmet, Dean and Parmet-Whelan families, who will miss him dearly. Larry leaves a legacy not many can claim - that of making people happy just to be with him. May he rest in peace, Cousins Jerry and Lois

There will forever be a piece of our family missing and we will never forget your corny jokes and recommendations on where to get the best wings, prime rib or breakfast sandwich. Our sympathy to Scott, Cass & Joan, thank you for sharing Larry with us. Peace & love always. Vikki, Mike & the kids

Joan, Scott, and Cass - so sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. Truly honored to have known your witty Dad. When your Dad and my Ed would see each other they always shared a joke. Peace and love.
