Linda Joyce (Whitmoyer) Armstrong
Linda Joyce (Whitmoyer) Armstrong, 74, peacefully slipped from the bonds of Dementia on Friday, May 17, 2024, at her daughter's home in California. Linda, born on January 4, 1950, was a fiercely independent, kind, and friendly soul.
Mom was born in Whitefish, Montana to Frank and Esther Whitmoyer. She spent her toddler years in Whitefish. With help from a big family, in 1954, her father built the family a lovely home in the heart of Missoula. In her youth, she attended Willard School, took ballet at The Genevieve Russ School of Dance, was in Girl Scouts and The Order of Rainbow for Girls. She had perfect attendance in Sunday School and sang in Children's Choir. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in First United Methodist Church. She volunteered for the church's support of Family Promise. She rarely missed a Sunday.
Graduating from Hellgate High School in 1968, she obtained a degree from UM in 1972 majoring in Education & Home Economics. She raised her daughters in Helena and Missoula to enjoy her large, loving family.
A valued member of the community, Linda was known for her hard work and dedication, serving the Missoula County Public Schools' Food Service department for over 30 years. While working she also cared for her aging parents, during which time she was also diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. She became a determined survivor while remaining dedicated to her family and career.
Linda had close friends who supported her and found joy in various hobbies, such as attending MCT and UM plays and concerts, playing Bunko, and being a founding member of the Friday Night Ladies Dinner Bunch (which still exists today).
She leaves behind her sister, Virginia (John) Johnston; her daughters: Christina Hoyt and Carolyn Rigg; grandchildren: Franklin, Ethan, Kento, Mae-Pearl, Ollie, and Mystie; her beloved dog, Kingston and numerous cousins and friends. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Frank Whitmoyer, and her granddaughter, Jasmine Hoyt.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 300 E. Main St., Missoula, MT 59802, with a reception to follow.
Linda will be remembered for her warmth, charity, and love for her family and community. She will be deeply missed.

I will always treasure my time with cousin Linda...she took the time to join in the celebration of my great grandfather Jacob Herold in Deer Lodge celebrating his 100th anniversary of immigrating to America. Always enjoyed visiting with her at the reunions l was blessed enough to attend. My prayers go out to her children for comfort. Love, Debbie
