PACIFIC GROVE – A memorial service will be held on August 4, 2007 for Edward D. Peckham at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Pacific Grove beginning at 1:30pm and followed by a reception in Edwards Hall. His friends and associates are encouraged to attend this celebration of life.
Mr. Peckham retired from service in the United States Army and also from teaching with the Monterey school system. He was born in Riverton, Wyoming on October 15,1928. He began his schooling there but graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper, Wyoming in 1947. He attended Casper College and after his Army service he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Redlands. He did his graduate studies through San Jose State College.
Peckham began his military career with the Wyoming National Guard in 1947 and went on active duty with the 300th Armored Field Artillery Battalion in 1950, serving in the Korean War. He left active duty in 1958, enrolling at Redlands University and, following his graduation, moved to the Monterey Peninsula to teach. He remained active in veteran's organizations in the area for many years, including MOAA (TROA), ROA, MOAA, AFA, Marine Corps League, Navy League, American Legion and VFW. He was a great supporter of JROTC programs, having been part of one during his high school years. He enjoyed attending reunions of his active duty unit and was a member of the "Wyoming Cannoneers", alumni of the 300th AFA Bn.
