Harold M. Lee passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday evening, Dec. 19, 2021. He is survived by his loving daughter, his grandson, two great grand daughters and his older brother.
Harold was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. He moved to Boise, Idaho then to California in the 70's and worked as an electrical engineer for General Dynamics. He then came to the Bay Area and worked for Atari, creating the home version of Pong. After that, he contributed to several other projects around the Valley, including a project to liquify natural gas for vehicles to reduce emissions.
In 1976, Harold purchased the historic Villa Del Monte in the Santa Cruz mountains, which recently turned 100 years old. The legendary pool parties began in 1982 with volleyball in the pool, live music, great friends and neighbors. The Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989 damaged the house and destroyed the garage. Pool parties resumed in 1992 with more great friends and musicians who were devoted to helping him keep the property in good condition.
Harold was very musical with a lovely baritone voice and he accompanied himself on guitar. He also enjoyed disc golf, hiking and camping all through California and the United States with his long-time girlfriend.
Harold was married twice and had other loving relationships and maintained friendly terms with all. He also had great friendships with several of the 'guys' who bonded over intense games of snooker, volleyball and cases of beer.
A memorial will be held at the Villa on Sunday, April 10, 2022.
He was a light to all of us and we will miss him dearly. I love you Daddy.
