Kathy Terry Obituary
Kathy was born in San Jose to William and Mildred Burgess and grew up on the Monterey Peninsula. She attended Bay View Elementary, Walter Colton Middle School, Monterey High School and Monterey Peninsula College. Kathy worked for over 30 years in the medical field, the last 18 years at the CHOMP Westland House.
Kathy was an extraordinary woman with many talents. She was a gifted painter, ballet dancer and musician and had an amazing skill for knitting and crocheting. She also loved the Monterey Jazz Festival which she attended for 35 years in a row.
Kathy leaves behind a loving family to mourn her: her husband of 33 years, Solomon R. Terry, Jr; her loving daughter, Megan R. Terry; her brother, Donald (Sheila) Burgess; her sister-in-law, Ruby L. Terry; her brother-in-law, Jerry (Barbara) Terry and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.
Kathy's family would like to give special thanks to Dr. John Hausdorff and the wonderful staff at the Community Hospital Oncology Department.
Visitation will take place at The Paul Mortuary Chapel this Thursday, June 26 from 4:00 PM until the Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici Church in Pacific Grove on Friday, June 27 at 11:00 AM. To sign Kathy's guest book and leave messages for her family, please visit:

I remember back to the David Avenue Kindergarten Center when my Megan was in Mrs. Butzlaff's class and your Megan was in Mrs. Steinman's class. I think I was substituting for Janice Steinman the day I met Kathy, when she came to pick Megan up. Instant bond! Two Kathy's and two Megan's! I always felt a wonderful surprise when I saw either of you. Kathy was truly a very beautiful person, and I know she's in all our hearts forever.

Dear Solomon and Megan may you feel God's loving arms holding you both with comfort and peace. I miss Kathy so much, she was a precious friend to me. I wish I was there for her before she passed away so I could of told her how much she had blessed my life with her friendship all these years 50+. Kathy could always bring a smile to my face followed by lots of laughing until our bellies ached. Kathy was always there for me even when my granddaughter had to start taking the city bus from Monterey to Marina for school. I told Kathy I was going to ride the bus with my granddaughter since it would be her first time and Kathy said I'll ride with you, even though it was early in the morning she was there. This was the kind of person Kathy was, always caring. Kathy would come by my mom's house and I would be out in the yard gardening, Kathy would get down on her knees and work away. Whenever I felt down I could talk with Kathy and she would make me laugh. I'll miss our many talks over a McDonalds ice cream cone. Kathy had a beautiful heart she lived her life to the fullest and didn't take a moment for granted. Kathy you will forever be in my heart. You are now at peace in our Fathers house. We love you my friend.

I first meet Kathy in 1974 when I was nineteen and just married. She was a friend of my wife, and was over our 1st postage stamp apartment many times.
I remember her as quite, smart, well spoken, with personally and a very pretty smile.
It turned out she married Soloman a close friend of my family for years before their wedding. My daughter Alicia called him Uncle Sol. Small world.
Sol, old friend , I feel your pain.

Kathy my sister, yes that's what I called you. Your profound interest in learning about other cultures are to be admired. I remembered how you cherished the necklace and bracelet that I gave you after I was crowned a Tribal Chief in Nigeria. You wore them with proud. We had always talked about going to Africa with me on a medical mission. Sad death has robbed us of that dream. I am really sadden by this news of Kathy being sick and passing. If you remember Megan I was your dental assistant. Your mom was wonderful, loving kind and funny! I remember Kathy since Jr. High school. She has always been a cheerful full of life person. We laughed a lot together. I can only imagine all the lives she touched in her career as well as her home life. I wish the family healing and happy memories to be shared.

Kathy, I have known you for such a short time, since rehab twice at Westland House in Oct. 2010. You were such a funny, light-spirited, wonderful, care giving woman. Then, I found you again at St. Angela's and you became my dear friend. No one would dare sit where Kathy and Solomon sat; they were special places. Upon your return from Lourdes, you were overjoyed not just about your experiences, but about finding your love for the rosary again. I will miss you my friend. Kathy was an angel! She took such care of my adopted sister, Phyllis Krystal, 13 years ago, and then when I was at Hospice, she cared for me!
I remember when she and Solomon had their darling little girl and I would always inquire about her as the years advanced. Kathy you left us all too soon, but your love and caring will always be with us, and may we be more like you!

We first became friends of Sol when we met at Holly's Restaurant in Pacific Grove and then, a while later, we met Kathy as she was fast-walking along the shore in PG. She joined us, walking, for a while and we learned that she was married to our friend, Sol. We congratulated Sol on his luck in marrying such a beautiful, friendly, sweet woman. We are so very sorry that Kathy has had to leave Sol, their daughter, Megan, and the rest of their family but know that Kathy is with the Lord now and will always be in their minds.
