Shiela McDonnell Collins Obituary

August 5, 1928 ~ December 9, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO – Sheila McDonnell Collins, 80, died peacefully at The San Francisco Towers on December 9, 2008 surrounded by much of her family. Sheila was born in New York City on August 5, 1928, the 10th of 15 children. She spent her youth in Manhattan and South Hampton. In 1948 she moved to San Francisco when she married Dick Cooley. They had five children. Growing up as one of 14 children, Sheila had a treasure trove of stories to keep her children glued to their seats at dinnertime. Sheila had a very active life in the city, making lots of friends, volunteering for many organizations and playing a pretty game of golf. In 1972 she married Richard Donnell Collins and moved to Pebble Beach, where she once again made her presence known. After helping her husband run the The Pebble Beach Stables for many years, she moved on to become one of the most successful realtors on the Monterey Peninsula. When she wasn't working she was, once again, excelling at golf, having become one of the first single female member admitted to Cypress Point Club and distinguished herself by having two holes-in-one on Cypress' 15th hole. Sheila was survived by her children, Leslie A. Cooley, Richard P. Cooley, Jr., Sheila M. Cooley, Sean M. Cooley and Mark Cooley, eight grandchildren and her beloved dog, Morgan.
The service will be at St. Mary's Cathedral at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008. In lieu of flowers, the family would be pleased to have donations made to St. Anthony's Foundation, 150 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94102.

I knew Sheila when we both lived in Pebble Beach, and am saddened by her passing. She was a dynamic lady, and will be remembered by all as a real force, regardless of the endeavor! My condolences to her family.
