Barbara Copley Obituary

Barbara F. Copley went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday evening, September 8, 2013, at her daughter's residence surrounded by her loving family, following a 15 year battle with cancer. She was 71 years old and of Cardington.

On February 25, 1942, Barbara was born in Letitia, Kentucky, one of six children of the late Walter and Irene Hayes Whitt. She was raised in South Shore, Kentucky, where she graduated from McKell High School in the Class of 1959.

Shortly following high school, Barbara completed training to become a Laboratory Technician, working at the Scioto Memorial Hospital in Portsmouth for over 10 years.

In 1976, Barbara and her family moved to Marengo. In 1986 she was introduced by mutual girlfriends to Wayne Copley, whom she married on March 6, 1986. Together they picked five bare acres of land, which became their home and filled it with flowers and trees that Wayne had planted for Barbara. Also, they shared a tremendous love for the Lord during their 24 wonderful years of marriage. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2010.

A woman of deep faith, Barbara was a member of the Marengo Christian Church. She was very passionate about her church and her faith. Barbara enjoyed sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with everyone she encountered.

Barbara was an avid gardener and enjoyed caring for her flower, fruit and vegetable gardens, and she always found a use for her crops either by canning or by baking goodies for her family and friends.

Most important of all to Barbara was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

She will be dearly missed by her four children: Jack (Elizabeth Mack) Loless of Westerville, and Jill (Mike) Stern of Worthington; Jim (Grace) Copley of Mansfield, Jeff (Sharon) Copley of Marengo; Grandchildren: Jackson, James, Lillyan, Georgia and Charles Loless; Joseph, Madeline and Jessica Haig, Jeffrey and D.J. Copley, Terra Mack, Michael Taylor, and Mikaylah and Tyler Stern; a great-grandchild: Elliott Kay Loless; a sister, Ruth (Luther) Lyons of South Shore, Kentucky; two brothers: Wales (Ruth) Whitt of Columbus, Georgia, and Charles (Debbie) Whitt of Beauty Ridge, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was also the honorary Grandmother of numerous children.

Including her husband and parents, Barbara was preceded in death by two brothers: Clinton and Richard Whitt.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 12th, at the Marengo Christian Church (address below). Services honoring her life and celebrating her homecoming will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Mike Stern and Preacher Brad White officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Marengo Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marengo Christian Church, 3904 St. Rt. 229, Marengo, OH 43334.
