MOUNT AIRY — Hassell Stephen Key, 69, of Mount Airy, earned his angel wings on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013. He was born on Aug. 10, 1944, to Mary Vernon Key and the late Hassell Paul Key. Steve was retired from Western Southern Insurance Co. Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 42 years, Jane Lynch Key; two loving daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie Key Burriss and husband, Timothy Burriss, and Holly Key Reece and husband, Jody Reece; an adoring grandson, Reagan Kendall Reece, 8 years old; adoring granddaughter, Ryleigh Savanna Reece, 5 years old; his mother, Mary V. Key; and one brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Elizabeth Key. He was preceded in death by his father, Hassell Paul Key; and a brother, Teddy Dale Key Sr. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the Jesus' Church of Corinth with the Rev Clayton Tilley. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Flowers or donations may be made to Jesus' Church of Corinth, c/o Joyce Norman, Ararat, NC. To the family, May our Lord God wrap his loving arms around you in this time of need. Steve was a friend and classmate of mine-SCHS 1963. He will be greatly missed.

May God's presence comfort you in a special way during this loss of Steve. I remember Steve from our school days as a young man who stood out; always smiling, friendly to everyone, hard worker, good athlete, and always surrounded by friends. He will be greatly missed.
