HELEN SNOW Obituary

PILOT MOUNTAIN — Helen Tomlinson Snow, age 87, of Pilot Mountain, NC passed away at her home, on Saturday, June 14, 2014. She was born in East Bend, North Carolina, on July 22, 1926, to the late Walter C. Tomlinson and Melissa R. Tomlinson. Confident and exuberant, she began a career as a professional model for Montaldos, Thalhimers, and Sosnics. She was first runner up in the Miss North Carolina Pageant in 1947. When she was 22, she married her love, George Snow. Together they enjoyed 61 years of joy and happiness until his passing in 2010. Helen was full of life. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, painting, and gardening. She was a vibrant woman who inspired many people, especially the youth of Pilot Mountain who visited the Charles Stone Memorial Library during her eleven year tenure as the librarian. Helen introduced a pre-school story hour, complete with Mother Goose in costume, and evening story time with children curled up in their pajamas. Helen greeted everyone with a welcoming smile. Her enthusiasm and compassion for others extended far beyond her duties as a librarian. Helen was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Pilot Mountain and served on various boards, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and participated in the United Methodist Women's Circle. She was a member of the Pilot Mountain Garden Club, Pilot Mountain Women's Club, and the Red Hats. Her love for her church and community was surpassed only by her love for her family. Mrs. Snow is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Paul Cranfill of Raleigh, NC; her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Lin Snow of Pilot Mountain, NC; her grandchildren, Allison, Drew, and Paul Cranfill of Raleigh, NC, and Anna Katherine Snow of Pilot Mountain, NC; her sister, Mary Ruth Marler of Winston-Salem, NC; her brother, Walt Tomlinson and wife, Carol of Belmont, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, George C. Snow; her parents and two sisters. Funeral service will be conducted at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 2:00 PM. A private family interment will follow in the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:30 P.M.-2:00 P.M. and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Pilot Mountain, NC. Cox-Needham Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Snow family. Online condolences may be made at www.coxneedham.com.

An expression of deepest sympathy on learning of my cousin Helen's passing. My mother, Sally Tomlinson Sullivan, was her aunt. Many of my Tomlinson relatives lived in East Bend. Helen was a beautiful person, both in appearance and loving personality. I am sad that I was unable to see more of her in recent years. May God rest her soul.
