Tommy Barker Obituary
Thomas Edward 'Tommy" Barker, age 86, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023, at the Trellis Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Surry County on Sept. 10, 1937, the son of the late Lonnie Joe and Gladys Jones Barker. Tommy was retired from F. Rees Co. after many years of service, and a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. Surviving are his daughter, Sonja Barker and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ruth Barker; and two brothers, Jimmy Barker and Pete Barker. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at Bannertown Baptist Church with Dr. Mickey Cogdill officiating. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. There will be no formal visitation at the church, however his body will lie in state at the church on Friday from 1-2 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bannertown Baptist Church, 1834 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Barker family.
