Edward Schaefer Obituary
AGE: 87 • North Plainfield
Edward J. Schaefer, 87, died on Friday June 17, 2016 at RWJ University Hospital- Somerset, in Somerville. Born in New York City, he was raised in South Plainfield and had resided in North Plainfield since 1958.
Mr. Schaefer was a 1948 graduate of North Plainfield High school and was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the 82nd Airborne Div. of the US Army. He was employed as a foreman with Public Service E&G in Plainfield for 44 years before retiring in 1992.
He served as a volunteer fireman with the North Plainfield Fire Department for 28 years and was a member of the Italian American Club in North Plainfield.
He was the husband of the late Priscilla Fody Schaefer, who died July 21, 1986. He is survived by his sons, Edward T. Schaefer and his wife, Wendy, of North Plainfield and John F. Schaefer and his wife, Teresa, of Watchung; and three grandchildren, John, Angela and Thomas.
A service will be held at The Mundy Funeral Home, 142 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen, on Wednesday, June 22th at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. For additional information or to sign the guestbook, visit www.mundyfh.com.

Ed was a wonderful neighbor to us. He always had a smile and a kind word for me, and would watch for me when I drove in from work. It was always reassuring that he was next door, and we will miss him very much.

Ed was a such a wonderful "neighbor dad" for me and my husband. Ever since we moved across the street from Ed, he was always looking out for us, up until the time I moved to Texas. He was great neighbor and friend. Rest in peace. I will always be praying for you.
