John J. Kelly

AGE: 89 • Chambersburg, PA

John J. Kelly, 89, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at the home of his daughter after an extended illness. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1922, the son of the late Martin A. and Catherine (O'Connor) Kelly. Mr. Kelly was a member in good standing of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church for 48 Years. He graduated from New Brunswick High School, in June of 1942. He was employed as a mechanic at the LetterKenny Army Dept., specializing in heavy equipment and tanks. He retired after 40 years of service in 1976. He was a veteran of World War II, and had earned numerous commendations and awards including the Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Saint Thomas American Legion and the Ancient Order Of the Hibernians of Gettysburg.

He is survived by a son: Martin S. (husband of Lucinda) Kelly of Chambersburg; three daughters: Katherine (wife of William J.) Anderson of Ohio; Marie A. (wife of Gary C.) Kline; and Beatrice K. Wishard, both of Chambersburg; as well as seven grandchildren: Gary J. Kline, William J. and Christopher K. Anderson, John W. and Patrick S. Kelly, (husband of Miranda I. Kelly), Katie Kelly, Colin R. Wishard, three great-grandchildren: Katelyn Kelly, Mary Kendol Kelly, Hope Anderson; Gage and Alexis (Beaver) three nephews and one niece. Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Marge Kelly.

Services were held at Corpus Christi Church, Chambersburg, PA, Wednesday. Burial followed in Corpus Christi Cemetery, Chanbersburg, PA. Memorial donations may be made to: Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Ridge Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or Corpus Christi Church, 305 North Second Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
