Scott Walker

1958 - 2019

CHESTERTOWN - Scott William Walker of Chestertown passed away surrounded by his family on Dec. 31, 2018 after a long battle with bladder cancer. He was 60.
Born on Feb. 7, 1958, in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late Marlene Walker. Scott served in the Army as a Chinese linguist and graduated from the University of Hawaii Manoa with a degree in Chinese. Scott married Sheila Walker on March 5, 1983 in Monterey, Calif. He lived in California, Japan, Hawaii and Texas before settling in Chestertown.
Music was an enormous part of his life, he was a talented fifer. He joined the Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps of East Greenwich, R.I. as a child, where he learned to play the fife and played in several fife and drum corps throughout his life, including the Patowmack Ancients of Vienna, Va. and the Monumental City Fife and Drum Corps of Baltimore. Scott loved to jam, and was always one of the last ones to leave the field at a muster.
Scott was a stay-at-home dad, instilling in his daughters a sense of wonder and curiosity. He helped craft every mediocre science fair project, listened to the sad excuse of a trombone and always encouraged individual expression and creativity. Scott touched those in his life with his humor and passion. He was known for his puns that were so bad - they were good. If you dared to ask him if he was alright, he would reply, "No I'm half left!" He was always bringing laughter and smiles to those around him, even in times of sadness.
Scott always had adventure coursing through his veins. With binoculars stowed away in his pack, his camera strapped safely around his neck and his wife by his side, Scott embarked on many a journey, ready to capture every moment. From backpacking through Asia, scuba diving in the depths of the Pacific Ocean, hiking the hills of Texas, kayaking along the Chester River to scouring the fields of Wilmer Park for new and undiscovered Pokèmon, he never did any of it without his trusty adventure cap. Scott lived out one of his dreams in the final year of his life, camping and traveling up and down the East Coast with his wife.
Scott faced his terminal diagnosis with humor and courage. He participated in six clinical trials, including four phase I "first in human" trials, two rounds of chemo, one round of radiation and countless surgeries. Often times at these appointments, he bravely donned a guinea pig T-shirt and boldly cried, "For science!" He attempted to wear the shirt one last time for a seventh trial before the disease finally took his life.
Scott is survived by his wife Sheila Walker of Chestertown; and daughters Sarah Walker of New York and Kiera Walker of Washington, D.C. He also is survived by cousins Frances Vucci, Mary Ste Croix and Ellen Deluca, all of Massachusetts.
