Albert Gray Obituary

Albert Allen Gray
Jacksonville - Albert "Allen" Gray, age 94, of Jacksonville, Il. and the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Il. died Wednesday evening (September 18, 2024) at the Veterans Home.
Born the son of Ernest and Irene Hartsook Gray, Albert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife the former Marjorie Starner; two sisters, Eva Clements and her husband Clarence, and Shirley Turner; and his brother, Wayne Gray and wife Alice.
Allen is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Fitch (Ray), Donna Gray (Jim Preisler), Wanda Stiles (Gary), and Joyce King (Donnie); six grandchildren, Mark (Lorena), Kyle (Amanda), and Ethan Fitch, Kate (Jordan) Knoll, and Kelcie and Dalton King; seven great-grandchildren, Amelia and Ana Fitch, Luna, Lily, and MJ Fitch, and Ella and Ava Blattner; and a brother in law Preston Turner.
Allen lived in rural Morgan County until he was drafted and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict 1950-1952. He was a supply clerk and was responsible for ordering all equipment needed.
He married Marjorie in 1954 and lived in Morgan County until they moved to the Braidwood area and lived there until he retired from Caterpillar in 1987. He returned to the Jacksonville area and lived there until he went to the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy in November of 2022.
He was a member of the Woodson Baptist Church. He helped with the Murrayville-Woodson EMS auction for many years and was awarded a life-time subscription to the ambulance service. He was a Master Mason and also a member of Shrine. Allen was also a life-time member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
Masonic services will be held 4 p.m. Friday (September 27, 2024) at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Il. with a funeral service following Masonic services. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date at Murrayville Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted. Memorials may
be made to Teresa Adams House of Quincy, Illinois Veterans Home, or Woodson Baptist Church and sent to Williamson Funeral Home, 1405 Lincoln Ave. Jacksonville, Il. 62650. Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.

So sorry for your loss, I used to live right next door to Albert in Braidwood Illinois. In fact he was the one who sold us our house next to him! He was a wonderful person. Sympathy Georgia Zentmyer
