Sherman - Jerry L. Buchanan, 66, of Sherman, IL, died Sunday, July 24, 2022, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
He was born August 15, 1955, in Jacksonville, the son of Byron E. and Eva Mae (Hickey) Buchanan, Sr. He married Grace V. Swearengin on June 13, 1981, in Jacksonville, and she survives.
He is also survived by his father, Byron E. Buchanan, Sr. of Jacksonville; three daughters, Debbie Buchanan of Winchester, Rebecca (John) Baker of Overland, MO and Sandra (Rob) Walters of Sherman; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three brothers and one sister, Ron (Shirley) Buchanan of Georgia, Caroline (Warren) Daniel of Florida, Byron Eugene Buchanan, Jr. of Jacksonville and Larry Buchanan of Greenville; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Macy. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Jerry was a 1973 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He was a home builder and carpenter for over 40 years. He later was a security supervisor for SIU School of Medicine in Springfield and later was a locksmith for SIU. He loved to hunt, fish and camp and was also an avid NASCAR fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held 11 am – 1 pm Monday, August 1, 2022, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, followed by a graveside service at Jacksonville Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
