Memories and Condolences
for Michael Gioscio

Not sure what to say?

Pastor Joseph Strubbe

Dear Diane,
I want to send my condolences to you and the family. I am a distant memory for Mike I'm sure. When Mike and his family lived at the corner of Independence and Doolin in Jacksonville, Illinois, I spent two years living right across the street with my Grandma Hayes. Grandma was deaf and I did not know the deaf language so it was a very sad and boring life for me. Mike and Connie and I went to the same school: Salem Lutheran School, and I guess we got acquainted there. Anyway, during those two years, I spend almost every day from Monday to Thursday at Mike's house. My mom and dad would pick me up Friday after school and I would stay with them on the weekend and return to Jacksonville on Sundays after church. Mike and I played and rode bikes and watched tv and enjoyed each other's company. Mike's mom was particularly kind to me.
I completely lost track of Mike when I went to high school at Ashland, and then to college at Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Ill., but have always remembered him and the fun times we had as kids.
At age 48, I went to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, and became a pastor and have been serving as a retired pastor in Costa Mesa, CA, since 2008.
Just wanted you to know that I remember Mike fondly, and am so grateful that he and his family welcomed me into their lives, and I wish you God's blessings as you mourn his passing.
