I watched Jake's service in my car in a parking lot in downtown Salem ,OR as my kids played putt putt golf with their friends. The exact second the service ended a downpour started...for some reason this seemed to make sense. I found out of his passing by text while driving on the OR coast . My son read it out loud. ...this too seemed to resonate with the time Jake and I spent together. We spent a lot of time moving around I believe exploring the world and trying to find a place that best suited us but I didn't come here to talk about that.
A large part of my heart is missing as I am sure it is with everyone who knew him well. I am so glad to hear that he was doing well. I had thought many times about reaching out to him and regret doing so immensely but there was a lot of time and physical distance between us.
To say that Jake was a good friend or a good partner/lover wouldn't be the best way to describe how I remember our connection although those words apply. If I can point a finger at the concept of fate I think it would be the best way to describe how we ended up in each other's lives and for so long through all the growing up we did together. I believe we needed each other to get through and enjoy that stage of our lives. There were many ups and downs and ins and outs...I believe we learned how to love and share our true selves with each other. Jake had an enormous influence on the person I am today. He is a powerful spirit and I don't believe I have met anyone else who possess such beautiful energy and free will as he had and I was so lucky to be a part of his life. With his passing a part of me feels lost as well and I am still working through grieving.
To his family, I truly enjoyed hearing stories told of his recent life experiences...they seemed truly like Jake...he always kept going and loving life.
I feel as if I could go on but it would be too much.
Love you Jake,
Millicent

Dearest Mary Edna and John, my heart has been aching for you ever since I heard the news and I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling. Our world could use more humans like Jake and his light was dimmed much too soon. Sending much love to you from Asheville.

To all of Jake´s family, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Jake and I ran together mostly in the high school and St. James EYC years. He was a fine fellow that I know will be missed by many people. I always enjoyed his company and was sorry to hear of his passing.

Jake was always a laid back kind friend to all. He would go out of his way to make you feel welcome. I knew Jake from Flagstaff, lived down the street from him, went camping, festivals, and drum circles together. I also stayed with Jake, Lauren, and Micky in Asheville, NC for a bit when they lived in a cabin atop Black Mountain. He had just come back from India I believe, and was so excited to share his journey with me. Never a day goes by when I think of Jake a smile always comes to my face. His laugh was contagious and I honestly couldn't have thought of a better person to be friends with all these years. We had lost touch a bit over the years but never lost that connection. We reconnected on FB a few years back and he was so thrilled to be starting Massage School at the same place Lauren had gone in Boone. Miss you brother, your light shines on.

Dear Mary Edna, Dr, Sperry, and family,
I am saddened to hear of this sudden loss of Jake. It is so, so hard for loving parents to lose a son, and without warning. I cannot imagine your shock and pain. I am praying for you all. Please let me know if there is anything I can do at this terrifically difficult time.
Love,
Nancy Vinson
