Alan Segal

Alan Segal, 76 years old of Harwich, Massachusetts passed away on December 7, 2023 at home.
Alan was born in Brookline, Massachusetts to Solomon and Anne (Gershman) Segal on January 26, 1947. His chosen fields of employment centered around helping others, working for Cape Cod Human Services, later as a Certified Nursing Assistant and then volunteering for Hospice. He was kindhearted, compassionate, and his silly sense of humor made life better for all he encountered.
Throughout his lifetime, Alan had a variety of interests that became passions fly fishing and tying flies, music, reading, writing poetry, race walking, making homemade pasta, bread-making and so much more. Whether on the shore or in the kitchen, Alan always took great pleasure in his chosen activity. He published four books of poetry, earning international awards for his haiku.
Alan is survived by his former wife and best friend, Barbara Pierce Segal and their 3 children, Thomas Segal (Joseph Barrios), Rebecca Mingace (Richard), Rachael Segal (Trevor Cormier). He is also survived by our dogs Harley and Diesel and our cat, Keiko. Alan is preceded in death by his parents Solomon and Anne (Gershman) Segal, and his aunts Esta Gershman and Eileen Gershman.
Graveside service will be held at Woodside Cemetery, Summer Street, Yarmouthport, Massachusetts on Friday, December 15 at 11:00 AM. Chapman Funeral Home in Harwich will be handling the funeral arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Brewster Animal Rescue League, 3981 Main Street, Brewster, MA 02631.
