Ann O'Shea

Ann O'Shea was an amazing mother, a wonderful grandmother, a fantastic wife, loyal sister-in-law, a kind aunt and a caring friend.
Ann was raised in Medford. Her parents died when she was an infant and she and her family were raised separately yet the siblings remained close their entire lives. Ann was lovingly raised by her Aunt Helen and Uncle Patrick, who adopted her. Pain fueled her tireless love of family. Her seven kids were rambunctious, but she rejoiced in their independence. Family was everything to Ann.
Ann met her husband, George at Boston College where she worked for the Dean. She volunteered at Danvers State Hospital and the Wenham Tea House for years, a lover of animals she raised a guide dog in her mid-seventies to help another person.
After her recent diagnosis of ALS her goal was to spend one more summer on her front porch, greeting neighbors who were like family and strangers who became friends. While ALS ravaged her body, she never once complained and she was deeply touched by the amazing people at Compassionate Care ALS and Care Dimensions, the medical people who brought her joy and to family and friends who helped, especially her daughter Kathleen who was her primary caregiver. She was the World's healthiest 86-year-old, who walked her beloved dog Giada, daily. The last two years were difficult as Cardiac Amyloidosis and ALS, diagnosed back-to-back, slowed her down physically but her mind remained vibrant and her passion for robust conversation continued. Ann graciously accepted her fate and she was grateful for support. Ann lived with passion.
She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA when she passed peacefully.
Ann lost her husband George of 64 years, her sister-in-law Muriel Delaney, her brothers Paul, Bill and Larry Meaney, in recent years. She leaves seven children, George of Danvers, Michael of Essex, Christine Brophy (Kevin) of Hamilton, Kathleen Kopanon (Michael) of Essex, Kevin (Trisha) of Wenham, Brian of Newburyport and Christopher (Dawn) of Beverly. She also leaves sixteen grandchildren. Additionally, she leaves her sister-in-law Claudia Meaney, of North Reading and brother-in-law, Arthur Delaney of Danvers, and countless nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Paul, 50 Union Street, Hamilton on Thursday, October 31, at 11:00 am. Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Wednesday October 30, from 4-7 PM. Burial will be held at Iron Rail Cemetery, 25 Rubbly Road, Wenham.
