Arlette Akkerman Obituary
Arlette was born in Guadalajara Mexico to Laura and Carlos Jakez to a family of 6 sisters and 1 brother.
The family immigrated to San Francisco in 1946. Arlette had an abiding loved for dance and grew up to become a dancer, singer and actress. While working as a backup dancer in a USO show, she met her future husband, Art Akkerman, then an Army MP. They fell deeply in love and married in June 1953, later having two sons - Atze Roel Akkerman and Karl Akkerman.
Art and Arlette raised their boys in Camarillo where Art was employed as a physicist at Point Mugu. Arlette went back to college, completing her Masters Degree in Education and becoming an elementary school teacher, a job she held for the next 14 years.
Deeply religious, Art and Arlette attended daily mass at Saint Mary Magdalen Chapel for decades with several of their best friends. Arlette and Art spent their retirement traveling the world until Art passed in 2006.
