Barbara Lee Freeman Shearer, 89 years old, of Winchester, Kentucky, formerly of McKinney/Stanford, Kentucky, passed away Christmas Day peacefully at home, with her daughter and caregivers by her side. Barbara was born Friday, June 21, 1935, in McKinney, Kentucky, to the late Lee Beatty & Hassie (Miracle) Freeman.
Barbara was a servant of God, having lived her life caring for others. She was employed over the years at Cowden Manufacturing, Palm Beach, Ephraim McDowell and other home health agencies.
Barbara and Jesse Jr Shearer were married Tuesday, February 3, 1953, in Lincoln County, Kentucky and had three children: son, Eugene (Pamela Alford) Shearer of Stanford, daughter, Diana Lee Johnson (Richard)-both deceased, and daughter, Deborah Shearer Garrison. Barbara and Jesse resided in the Hubble community until they moved to Rice Lane in Stanford. Barbara was a member of the Calvary Hill Baptist Church and attended the First United Methodist Church in Richmond after moving to Winchester to be near her daughter.
Barbara was preceded in death by spouse of 52 years, Jesse, who passed Monday, February 28, 2005; daughter, Diana Lee Johnson (2020); mother, Hassie (Miracle) (1980); father, Lee Beatty Freeman (1966), siblings, Hughie Elmer Freeman (Camden, Ark) (2001), Doris Lee Freeman Moore (2002), Lucille Frances Allen (2005), and Raymond Freeman (1920), all of Lincoln County. Barbara leaves behind her daughter, Deborah Garrison; son, Eugene Shearer; two granddaughters, Sarah Morgan Garrison and Cheyenne Caldwell; two grandsons, Richard Shane Johnson (Niki) and Jeremiah Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Sierra Johnson, Cody Johnson, Austin Johnson, and Justin Johnson; nieces, Paula Faye and Carol Laverne Jeffries; nephew, Bernie Freeman (Camden Ark), and several other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.
Barbara was devoted to her family caring for Jesse with Alzheimer's for several years.
She loved traveling with her daughter and granddaughter, reading Romance novels, singing, card playing and doing word searches.
A Public Visitation will be held 12PM-1PM Monday, December 30, 2024, at Fox & Friend Funeral Home.
The Public Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Monday, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Richard Shane Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Roger Kirkpatrick, Gary Phillips, and John Tucker will serve as Active Pallbearers.
Memorial Contributions suggested to Calvary Hill Baptist Church or Blue Lick Baptist Church.
