Barbara Jean Wilkins, of Rolla, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024. She was born on September 7, 1969.
The world is a darker place without her. A mentor and second mother to many, Barb is survived by her beloved husband, Allen; her children, Beth (Marcus) and Greg (Madison); her mother, Shirley (John); father, Dave (Liz); her sisters, Annette (Chad) and Susan (Alex); along with numerous other relations and cherished friends.
Barb was an educator at heart, raising her children to value knowledge and she was proud that the entire family were alumni of Missouri S&T. She loved being a teacher and professor, reveling in making complex mathematics comprehensible to her students. She loved mentoring and many have benefitted from her mothering presence, many of whom she met through Role Playing Games. She started her leadership young, serving as drum major in high school, then acting as advisor for the math team when she worked at Cuba High School. She served on numerous boards including Organized Play and the Missouri S&T Gaming Association. She worked with Odyssey of the Mind, Girl Scouts, and Rainbow Girls. She won many awards for her life of service and devotion to others including being the Mother Advisor for Rainbow and being one of only seven people awarded the Order of the Wayfinder for her tireless volunteer leadership and coordination of Organized Play which allowed thousands of people around the world to enjoy these games.
Most of all, however, Barb loved her friends and family and spent all day every day caring for others. Her love and light shone throughout this community and in the lives of so many and she is so very deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm at the Hasselmann Alumni House on March 2, 2024.
A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10 am.
