Candace Renee Bennett, also known to friends and family as "Big Can," has officially tossed her apron to the side and turned off the stove for the last time on July 1, 2023, just shy of her 39th birthday. Born on July 2, 1984, in the bustling metropolis of Idabel, OK, Candace quickly established herself as the life of the party, serving up generous helpings of humor and compassion with a side of courageous spirit.
Having spent the majority of her life in Valliant, Oklahoma, Candace was known by all, not only for her culinary skills but also for her love of music and crossword puzzles. A funny lady with a big heart, she could make anyone laugh with her quick wit and humorous anecdotes about life and cooking. Candace was a member of the Kulli Chito United Methodist Church in Broken Bow, often reminding us all of Psalm 126:2, "Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy."
Candace is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Steven, Winston, Wayne, Titus, James, Daniel, Nathaniel, and Joe Billy; one sister, Marietta Billy; two nephews, Alan Lewis and Ryder Causey.
Candace loved her children, Cambria, Taevian, and Narayah, more than her favorite spatula. They were the secret ingredients to her life's recipe. In addition to her children, Candace is survived by her sisters, Christine, Mercedes, Stephanie, and Michelle; her brothers, Jeremiah and Thomas, her siblings, Toni, Clay, Valerie, Bradley, and Nate, her significant other, Danny Hubbard, and her much-loved nieces and nephews, especially Kimberly Cleghorn; numerous family members, including Rev. Stephen Billy and Rebecca Billy, who were first to welcome her to the heavenly banquet, preceded her in death.
Candace, the generous and compassionate cook of Valliant, will be greatly missed. We take comfort knowing she's probably up there organizing a heavenly cook-off, her infectious laughter echoing through the clouds. As we remember her, let's recall her favorite verse, Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Please share your memories, anecdotes, and upload photos of Candace on her memorial page. Let's keep the stove of her memory burning brightly as we remember her for the funny, generous, compassionate, and courageous woman she was.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Edgel Samuel officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
