Carrie Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown's Funeral Home - Plainfield on Dec. 9, 2022.
Carrie O. Davis was born January 6, 1927 to the late Cicero and Maude Barbour in Smithfield, NC where she received a modest education. Carrie departed this life quietly for her eternal home December 2, 2022 at her residence.
Carrie moved to New York City in her early twenties where she met and married James Davis. She worked as a nanny for a short time and went to night school to better her life skills. Carrie was employed with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York where she was one of the first black women to work at the bank. She worked there 20 years retiring in 1971. She was not done yet. In 1968 she moved to New Jersey and purchased a home. She went back to school and received her nursing license. She was employed by the Lyons Veterans Affairs Hospital in Lyons, NJ where she worked until she was 69 years old. In New Jersey, she became a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Plainfield.
Carrie was a very strong and caring person where she lived her life caring and guiding her sister Ina's children. Carrie always cared for her family and friends. She was one of seven children, four sisters and two brothers who have all predeceased her. She is the last of her siblings to go home. She didn't have any children of her own, but had a wonderful relationship with her nieces Inez Johnson, who was her caregiver for many years, Elaine Joseph and Diane Johnson and a nephew Masuta Johnson. She also had a special relationship with a friend she called her son, Dushie Katenu and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Let the family know you care by leaving your condolences, favorite memories and thoughts and prayers on the Tribute Wall.
