Big Stone Gap, Va.-Creed Jackson "Jack" Williams, Sr., 95, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He lived in Big Stone Gap for most of his life. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran, having served in the Occupation of Japan. He was proud to be a radar specialist during his service time. He worked for C & P Telephone Co. as a central office repairman for 40 years. He was a member of the Big Stone Gap Masonic Lodge #208 AF & AM, and recently received his 50-year pin. He loved fishing, woodworking, gardening, among other things. He was a founding member of the Lonesome Pine Model Railroad Club, Appalachia, Va. He and his wife, "Dell" were Cub Scout leaders for many years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap and the Methodist Men.
He was preceded in death by his wife 69 years, Nilda Adella "Dell" (Beverly) Williams; his parents, Emmitt and Lola Williams; and three sisters.
Surviving are his children, Mary Lynn Carroll, Big Stone Gap, Creed Jackson "Jackie" Williams, Jr. (Kim), Zebulon, NC, Lola Adella Buchanan (Reid), Lexington, Ky. and John David Williams (Melissa), Louisville, Ky.; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Blevins of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00pm – 1:30pm Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Gilliam Funeral Home. Military rites, by the U. S. Air Force Honor Guard, Shaw AFB, SC, will follow at 1:30pm, along with a masonic service by the Big Stone Gap Masonic Lodge #208 AF & AM. The Celebration of Life will follow with Pastor Timothy Robinson officiating.
