It's hard to say what my first memory was, but at 15, Dave and Carol kindly let me stay at their home one summer for a couple of weeks. I remember spending a lot of time with Andrea, watching Devo music videos with Dan, and listening to his Depeche Mode tapes.
A memory about Dave I have was driving with him from Cardiff to UCSD one day. I don't remember why we were going there, but I was excited to see where he worked-- it seemed so interesting. I was disappointed when at least 5 lanes of SoCal traffic came to a halt. This was completely foreign to me. I remember Dave pulling out a newspaper and simultaneously navigating traffic while perusing the paper. Impressive.
Remember the Toyota minivan? I remember driving to SLC with the whole Gough family. It was at least 117 degrees in Las Vegas and we went to Wendy's. With my dietician mom and frugal parents, we rarely ate fast food. I had my first ever chocolate frosty and I remember it being truly heavenly in that heat.
Another memory-- at about 18, Dave gave me some college advice: graduate in 4 years, and don't go to BYU. (Hahaha. Don't worry I was not going to do that.) Many years later, he gave Rune the same advice.
Jim Henson said something like children don't remember what you say, they remember who you are. I will remember Dave as a kind-hearted, caring person, with a great sense of humor.
