Donna Mae Warner passed away on the evening of October 25, 2023 after a weeklong battle in the Cardiac ICU where she made friends with all of her nurses while also trying to convince each and every one of them to let her out of the hospital with a promise that she wouldn't tell anyone if they sprang her free. Her fiery spirit never faltered.
Donna was born in Seattle, Washington on March 29, 1954 to Thelma and Frank Duarte. As the youngest of four, there is still continued debate as to whether or not she may have been the favorite. She did however have a tendency to bring home stray animals which may not have earned her any points towards favorite child status. Donna attended private Catholic schools in Seattle until her senior year of high school where she graduated from Auburn High School which she was never fond of.
In 1981 Donna met Dan Warner one evening after work at The Pumphouse in Bellevue and the two were married in 1983. In 1984 they moved to Woodinville, welcomed their daughter the following year, and made countless memories together in that home for nearly 20 years. Donna's career spanned industries including banking, real estate, and aerospace, and she brought her impeccable management skills and attention to detail to everything she touched. Donna retired in 2019 shortly after she and Dan moved to Spokane and in spite of a global pandemic followed by a cancer diagnosis and treatment, she made the absolute most of enjoying her retirement.
Donna loved to sit in the sun and read a good book, and then pass those books along to someone else she thought would enjoy them. She liked to go for walks around her neighborhood or play outside with her dog Roxie. But Donna was happiest spending time with her family, taking trips to favorite destinations including Sun Lakes and Hawaii, hours on end of playing Rummikub or Scrabble, and simply being together.
Donna is survived by her husband Dan Warner and daughter Rachel Warner, as well as her sisters, brother, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Donna's infectious laugh, witty sense of humor, and unwavering love for her family will live on in her spirit and in all who knew and loved her. She is deeply missed, and always will be, by those who were lucky enough to know her.
A celebration of Donna's life is planned for early 2024 with more details to come. In the meantime, please feel free to share a favorite story or memory of Donna.
