In Loving Memory of Edward "Ed" Altmann.
Edward Bernard Altmann, age 80, peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with Parkinson's on March 15, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center, embraced by the love of his family.
Ed was born on August 2, 1943, in Auburndale, WI, and married Lois Weiler on August 22, 1964. His life was characterized by an unwavering faith, dedication to family, passion for his business, and love of travel and the outdoors.
Ed graduated from Auburndale High School in 1962 before embarking on a life-long construction career which began with a carpenter apprenticeship program at Mid-State Technical College. Along with his wife, Lois, Ed established Altmann Construction Company in 1982, which continues to operate as a family business today. Throughout his life, he demonstrated leadership, commitment to high standards and safety in the workplace. Ed valued mentorship and education in the construction industry and was a driving force behind the merit shop carpentry apprenticeship program in Central Wisconsin.
An active member of his community, Ed was involved in various organizations and clubs including the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), Wisconsin Rapids Serra Club, Bull's Eye Country Club, and Safari Club International (SCI). He was also an active supporter of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish, local area Catholic education, priestly formation and Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin (ABC).
Ed's zest for life was evident in his diverse interests and hobbies. He shared countless adventures with his beloved wife, traveling the world and enjoying his passion for hunting. Weekends were often spent at their cottage in Eagle River, surrounded by nature and loved ones. An avid Wisconsin sports enthusiast, Ed found joy in attending his favorite Wisconsin high school, college, and professional teams' games.
Above all, Ed cherished his role as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Apollonia (nee Ashbeck) Altmann; parents-in-law, Thomas and Lucille (nee Remitz) Weiler; sisters Anne Marie Warmka and Helen (Art) Helminiak, brother-in-law Jim Jacunski, sister-in-law Therese Ubrig (nee Weiler), niece Casey Weiler, and nephew Randy Brock.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife of 59 years, Lois, and three children, Tom (Colette) Altmann, Tamela (Jeff) Meyers, and Tonja (Todd) Fritsche, and eight grandchildren, Mitchell (Ryleigh) Altmann, Morgan Altmann, Matthew Altmann, Sarah Meyers, Colin Meyers, Skylar Fritsche, Nolan Fritsche and Adalia Fritsche.
He is survived by his brothers Dale (Donna) Altmann, LeRoy (Leiann) Altmann, Clifford (Janice) Altmann, Larry (Gwen) Altmann and his sister Rhonda (Terry) Richardson as well as his aunts Barbara Ashbeck and Dolores Hoffman and many beloved cousins, nephews and nieces.
Ed's faith, quiet generosity, work ethic, sense of humor and humility will continue to inspire many wonderful memories and humorous stories from all who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am– 12:00 noon at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish in Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday, March 21st. A Mass in celebration of Ed's life will commence at 12:00 noon. Rev. Alan Guanella will officiate the services. Burial rites will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids, WI following the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Assumption Catholic Schools, Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish or Associated Builders and Contractors Apprenticeship and Training Trust Fund, in Ed's honor.

Ed was a wonderful boss and a very brilliant man. I learned a lot from him about the industry. He will be in our prayers.
