HILLSBOROUGH: Edward "Ed" Grady Clapp, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Hock Family Pavilion surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Durham to the late Walter Edward Clapp and Ethel Lane Clapp.
He is survived by his wife Donna Tatum Clapp; his son, Rodney Clapp; daughter, Tracie Cherry (Ricky); grandchildren, Garrett Clapp, Josie Clapp and Brianna Cherry. He is also survived by brother, Joe Clapp and sister Brenda McGehee.
Out of highschool Ed started working in management with Advance Auto. In 1972, he began his career working for M. M. Fowler Inc. starting as a Gulf Service station manager. And on to management with Family Fare convenience stores with the same company for a total of 48 years.
Ed was known for acts of kindness and generosity, specializing in customer service satisfaction. The many years of service with the company Ed received numerous awards of achievements. Over time his years of service would be recognized for exceeding goals in sales. Ed took pride in the appearance and cleanliness of the stores he managed and excelled in store merchandising. One of Ed's favorite things to do was spending time at the beach with family including fishing with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 20 at Clements Funeral Home in Hillsborough from
6:00 pm -8 pm. Graveside service will be held on Saturday October 21 at Efland United Methodist Memorial Cemetery at 11:00 am. located on Brookhollow Road, Efland, NC 27243
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial donations be made to Hock Family Pavilion, 4023 N. Roxboro St. Durham NC, 27704.
