She was born July 24, 1924, to Alfred and Mabel (Berglund) Saethre in Wood Lake, Minnesota, moved to Grand Marais at the age of five and graduated from high school in 1941. She attended weather bureau school and was employed by the US Weather Bureau in Alaska for 6 years. Eleanor married Art Waha on April 9, 1954, and returned to Grand Marais where she was employed by Cook County School District in the kitchen until retiring in 1987. A faithful and active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, a few of Eleanor’s many community services were - the Cook County Cancer Clinic Screening for 25 years, the Cook County Fair Board and 4H for 45 years and long-time member of the Maple Hill Fire Department.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art in 2004; brothers, Russell Lindskog, Lyle, Roland and Dale Saethre; sisters, Irene Thompson, Olive Brugge, and Carolyn Engebretsen.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Jerry (Wendy) Waha of Grand Portage; daughters, Patience Anderson Faulkner of Cordova, Alaska, Mary (Butch) Deschampe of Grand Portage and Barbara (Paul) Pederson of Grand Marais; brothers, Chester Lindskog and Roy Lindskog; sister, Lorraine McDonald; sisters-in-law, Delores Saethre and Nola Lindskog; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a very special care-giver, Vanessa.
Visitation will be from Noon until the 1 PM service on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
