Elisabeth Dodds Vinson

1940 - 2022

Elisabeth (Liz) Dodds Vinson, 81, died on October 15, 2022, at Strickland Place in Arbor Acres, Winston Salem, NC.
She was born on October 18, 1940, in Dayton Ohio to the late James H. Dodds and Alice Weaver Dodds. She attended Fairview High School, Wittenberg University, University of Dayton, Kansas State University, and Wright State University. She married Lt. Ronald Vinson, a classmate from 1st grade and they moved to Ft. Riley, KS. They shared a loving and enduring marriage.
She was a teacher and Elementary School Principal for 38 years, serving in OH, KS, and KY. After retiring, she continued to work with and for children in OH, FL, and NC as a substitute, Headmistress at Bay Village Montessori School, Curriculum Consultant, Guardian ad Litem, and later tutored with the Read, Write and Spell Program in Winston Salem. Public Education was her true passion. She had progressive ideas and supported diversity, equity, and inclusion. She was an active member in several Episcopal churches over the years and was involved with Day Care Centers, Church School, Vacation Bible School, Biblical Garden, and Summer Enrichment Program. She also served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at St. Paul's Episcopal Church when they moved to Arbor Acres in 2013. Gardening, caring for, and sharing roses at Arbor Acres, travel, and books were her favorite activities. She truly enjoyed each chapter of her life and tried to live each day to the fullest. Moving to Arbor Acres provided an opportunity to meet many wonderful new friends and to be involved in new activities. Liz will be missed but more importantly, remembered for the love and generous sprit she shared with others.
She leaves behind her husband, Ron, son Matthew Vinson, and grandsons, Grant and Noah of FL. Niece, Kathryn Young, Great Niece, Christina Presley and Sister-in-law Betty Dodds of TX, and Great Niece Angela Nardini of KS, and a Sister-in-law Carol Brown of OH.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30AM, Saturday October 22, 2022 at Piner Hall, Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community, 1240 Arbor Road, Winston Salem, Nc 27104 with a memo to direct funds to the "Garden of Peace", or to the charity of your choice.
