Emma Ruth Felton, 102, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at a local health care facility.
She was born December 23, 1921, in Pensacola, Florida to Arthur and Florrie Ransley.
In 1940, she married the love of her life Laverne Harold Felton ( he died in 2003). Together they raised their children, David ( who died at the age of 7), Edward (Gwen) Felton, Marian (Bruce) Patzmann, Rosemary (Pete) Yonke, Virginia Jayne (who died as an infant), and her beloved Nancy ( who was her primary caregiver in the last days of her life). Her grandchildren are Patrisha Cox, Emily Swanson, Tracy Patzmann, and Brian Patzmann. Her great-grandchildren are Sara Noppen, Braeden Swanson, Brooke Swanson, Lachlan Swanson, and Rivers Patzmann, and two great-great-grandsons, Tyler and Collin Noppen. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
She was preceded by her parents, two sisters and one brother, and many aunts, uncles, and their families.
She was a lifetime resident of Escambia County and lived on the same family property for over 102 years. She graduated from Pensacola High School and attended Florida State College for Women. She
was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She worked at all the family-owned businesses: Ransley's Dairy, Sleepy Hollow Florist, and Felton Lanes. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and working in her yard, but, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a wonderful cook who loved to entertain and decorate, especially during the holidays and special events. Emma Ruth graciously shared her talents, time, and treasure with those she loved, always putting others before herself.
She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Florida Chapter #9) whose mission is to make a positive difference in the world with charitable works, lasting friendships, and loving kindness to all mankind. She served as the Worthy Matron for one term. She described this time of service as a happy time.
She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to inspire others. May God hold her in the palm of His hand.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life at the First Presbyterian Church, Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 10:30am with Rev. Robert Thomas Quiring officiating.
A private burial ceremony will be held in the Pine Forest Methodist Church Cemetery. Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 100 Beverly Parkway, Pensacola (850-432-6146) is in charge of arrangements. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be made for the Felton family at www.fcfhs.com
Flowers are always appreciated. A memorial gift in her honor may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 33 East Gregory Street, Pensacola, Florida 32502.
