Esther Mae Collins Shannon, a resident of Beverly, went home with Jesus on Monday, July 3, 2023, surrounded by family at the home of her daughter in Mill Creek.
Esther was born October 17, 1942, in Beverly, a daughter of the late Arch Collins and Opal Lambert Collins. On January 30, 1960, she was united in marriage to Harmon "Sonny" Shannon, Jr., who proceeded her in death on August 10, 2018.
She is survived by her sister, Eula Smith and husband John of Elkins and her brother, Roger Collins, of Montrose. She was proceeded in death by one half-brother, Harry Lambert of Mabie and one sister, Eloise Miller of Ellamore.
Left to cherish her memory are two children, Anita Lambert and husband Ronnie of Mill Creek and Mark Shannon and wife Trixie of Tuscola, TX. Six grandchildren, Daniel "DJ" Lambert and wife Becki, Travis Lambert and wife Jessica, Kayla Wratchford and husband Adam, Abbey Lambert, Cole Shannon and wife Mallory and Anna Grace. Nine great-grandchildren, Aiden, Wyatt, Bristol, Josie, Olivia, Maleah, Jesse, Michael and Lily Mae.
Esther attended school in Randolph County and later received her GED with the first graduating class at Beverly. She loved to garden, hunt with her husband, sew, quilt and her favorite thing was watching bluebirds. She and Sonny built several boxes and placed them throughout the valley. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.
She worked at Reidbord Brothers, Rennix Nursery, Bata Shoe Co., was self-employed as a seamstress and later retired from Walmart as a department manager.
She loved serving the Lord and served several years as church treasurer, secretary, hostess and 25 years as a primary teacher. She was a member of the Tygart Valley Baptist Church of Beverly.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 10, 2023, from 5 until 7pm and services will be held on Tuesday, July 11th at 11am with Pastor Jack Howell officiating. Interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville..
