Sister Francisca Alonzo, 81, of Wolfforth, Texas passed away August 26, 2022.
Francisca was born February 2, 1941 in Fentress, TX to Agustin and Consuelo Alonzo. She professed her religious vows with the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate in Amarillo, Texas August 15, 1965. In 1981 she chose to continue her religious commitment with the St. Francis Mission Sisters, a branch of the original community. Her ministry to God's People has included being teacher, librarian and vice-principal in Los Angeles and Long Beach Catholic Schools; in Odessa and Lubbock Texas. In 1989 She served as a pastoral minister at St. Francis de Asis Parish in Juarez Mexico and in 1991 founded two orphanages for street children there. This was a fulfillment of a dream that was always with her, she embraced these troubled children and nourished them with all her heart and soul. These orphanages are still serving needy children with great love and care under the direction of Juan Carlos Orrantia and his wife, Sophia.
St. Francis Mission Sisters wish to thank Ninfa Hernandez, who was deeply committed to working daily with Sr. Frances, and to the many persons and parishes who supported her financially in her mission to children whose lives are broken. Sister Frances had a way of touching the lives of people for Christ no matter what the situation. We are proud that she shared her life of commitment with us.
Loved ones include her sisters, Janie Alvarez, Margie Alvarez, Gloria Castillo, Delia Mendoza,Sally DeLeon and Mary Alice Garcia; her brother, Augustine Alonzo.
Preceded in death by her parents, Agustin Alonzo and Consuelo Alonzo, sisters, Josefina Gonzalez and Maria Reyes; brothers, Albert Alonzo and Jose Antonio Alonzo.
In lieu of flowers, Sister Alonzo requested donations be made to Casa de Asis.
We are grateful for her life, her giftedness and all she shared with her Family, Religious Community and God's people.
Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Home Tuesday, August 30, 2022, 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Rosary Services will be 7:00 PM in Sanders Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church 9821 Frankford Avenue Lubbock, Texas 79424.

I met Sister Frances in 2001. I went to visit her at Casa de Asis in Juarez MX. It was as if she'd known me for years. Her devotion and love for the children was visible by the way they gathered around her when she came into a room. They loved her. I feel very honored to say that she considered me a close friend. I last visited Sister at the Convent in Wolfforth about a year ago and she was a fighter. She didn't complain just offered her life to the Lord. I'll miss her smile most of all. Peace be with you, Sister.
