1953 - 2023

Gary C. Armstrong
Chilhowie, VA
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary C. Armstrong, a devoted family man who left us on December 19, 2023 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Gary, age 70, lived a life filled with love, hard work, and simple joys. He was born on March, 23, 1953 in Saltville Virginia to the late "Poodle" and Mae Armstrong. Gary grew up with a strong work ethic that he carried with him throughout his life. He had a long career with General Dynamics before his retirement. Gary's commitment to hard work was matched only by his unwavering love for his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. Gary found immense joy in supporting and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Whether it was cheering them on at sports events, or teaching them life lessons, Gary cherished every moment he spent with them. In his free time, Gary found himself outdoors. He had a passion for fishing that took him to some of his favorite places, including his favorite spot, Buggs Island in Clarksville, Virginia. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol "Susie" Armstrong.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, Gary Lee Armstrong and wife Tabatha; two grandchildren, Dalton Armstrong, and Ethan Armstrong and wife Kate; three great-grandchildren, Bryce, Ella, and Colton; one brother, Danny "Tink" Armstrong and wife Cheryl; three sisters, Loretta "Punk" Hall and husband Randy, Linda "Dolly" Anderson and husband Larry, Kathy Carrico and husband Nate; special brother-in-law, Larry Wyatt; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
The family will be receiving friends Friday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.
