It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of George Eppinger, age 82, on March 30, 2023. George was born in Globe, Arizona, on July 26, 1940, to William and Celesta Eppinger, and was the youngest of three. His parents and siblings preceded him in death.
After graduating Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas, George joined the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Hancock. Following his military career, George owned a service business and eventually retired from City Public Service. George was a devout Christian, attending service every Sunday at St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne. George enjoyed serving and participating in his community, including being a member of the American Legion as well as spending many years volunteering at the St. John Wild Game Dinner and with the "grill guys."
George met his greatest love, Sandra, while in high school, where his big heart and compassion immediately won Sandra. They were married December 30, 1960 and raised their two daughters, Dawnelle and Jill, in San Antonio, later moving to Boerne to enjoy retirement.
Throughout his life, George never wavered in his loyalty and love for his family. He often demonstrated his love through building and creating, building both his home where he and Sandra retired, as well as crafting doll houses, rocking chairs, and train tables to spoil his grandchildren. George loved the outdoors and spent many days deer hunting, fishing, taking trips to the coast, as well as growing beautiful gardens for he and Sandra's home.
George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra Eppinger, as well as their two daughters, Dawnelle Gonzenbach, son-in-law Gary Gonzenbach, and Jill Finnie, son-in-law David Finnie. George also leaves behind five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family invites you to join in celebrating George's life at St. John Lutheran Church on April 12, 2023. Visitation will be held at 10am, with a ceremony and luncheon following at 11am. George will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. To leave condolences for the family and to view a video of George's life, please visit www.ebensberger-fisher.com.
