FITCHBURG – George L. Freeman, 85 of Fitchburg, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022.
Born in Plainfield, NJ on February 25, 1937, George was the son to the late George H. and Irene K. (Ackerman) Freeman. After graduating high school, he enlisted into the United States Army and served for four years. During his enlistment, he was an ice road trucker in Thule, Greenland. After his honorable discharge from the Army, George worked for Hollingsworth & Vose in West Groton for over thirty years.
George loved lighthouses, trains, maps, history, car shows and puzzles. He was a very calm, kind and friendly man who would strike up a conversation with anyone especially when they needed directions. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Townsend, Townsend Ecumenical Outreach (TEO) and Habitat for Humanity.
George is lovingly survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia (Clark) Freeman; his daughters, Amy (Freeman) Lavigne and her husband Arthur of Hagerstown, MD, and Wendy Freeman of Fitchburg; his son, Timothy Freeman, and his wife Sandra (McCorquodale) Freeman of Fitchburg; "Grandpop" to Sondra (Lavigne) Calhoun, her husband Will and their son Oliver Calhoun of Springfield, PA, Randall Lavigne of Bridgeport, PA, and "Poppy" to Janee Mae Freeman of Fitchburg, and Tommy Maciorowski of Winchendon. He was predeceased by his parents, George H. and Irene K. (Ackerman) Freeman.
George's Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11 am at TJ Anderson Funeral Homes, 250 Main St., Townsend. Visiting Hours will be held from 9 am to 11 am. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, 31 Highland St., Townsend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to the Townsend Ecumenical Outreach (TEO), 82 Bayberry Hill Road West Townsend, MA 01474 or at www.teo-ma.org, or The United Methodist Church, 265 Main St., PO Box 497, Townsend, MA 01469.
