George Witik Obituary

George Michael Witik, beloved husband of Joyce Gray Witik of West Hartford died at home after a short illness. Born in Plainville, George was the son of the late George and Natalie Gabor Witik who came from Ukraine in 1909. George was a graduate of Plainville High School and attended Dartmouth College. George served in the United States Navy where he completed his pilot training in Dallas, Texas. After military service George worked for Minneapolis Honeywell and Hamilton Standard. He then founded the George Witik Building Construction Company. Later in his career George worked in the engineering department at the University of Connecticut Medical Center where he assisted in the design, construction and operation of the hospital. George loved his home, which was built in 1812, and spent many years restoring it. He was Scout Master for 8 years of Troop 144 in West Hartford. George also enjoyed spending time at Cape Cod where he served for twenty years as president of the Waterview Colony Condominium Association in Chatham, MA. George was a caring, loving father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children and their spouses; Paul Gray Witik and his wife Que of Wallingford, Andrew George Witik and his wife Claire of Chicago, IL. and Tara Kathryn DiVenti and her husband Tony of Baltimore, MD. George also leaves behind six dearly loved grandchildren; Andrew George, Caroline Margaret, Kelsey Rose, Joseph Anthony, John Patrick, and Paul William. Funeral services will be held this Saturday, at 9:30 AM from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at the Church of St. Timothy, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Family and friends may call from 4-8 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund 255 Pitkin Street, East Hartford 06108.
